one day at a time
New old project! In high school, sometime around late sophomore year, I decided I would give that Bible-in-a-year project a try. I think I got up to either 1 or 2 Chronicles before that fire fizzled out. So here I am, five years later, taking another shot. This time, I will stay committed, God help me.
Day 1: Genesis 1-5
-Creation story
-Fall of Adam & Eve
-Cain & Abel (first murder)
-Adam’s descendants (all the way to Noah & his three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth)
I don’t know why I found this interesting, but I saw a few repeated names in the descendants list (a couple of Cain’s descendants had the same names as a couple of Seth’s). I guess since the names sound so foreign and strange to us, I just assumed that no two people would have the same name, but I was wrong. I’m not sure, though, if those names had the same meanings. For example, were the names Lamech (Cain’s great-great-great grandson) and Lamech (Methuselah’s son) the same? Or is it something like Korean names based off Chinese characters, where two names sound the same but actually have quite different meanings? I don’t know how important or relevant this is, but I couldn’t help wondering as I was reading and realizing that I saw some names more than once.
